Today see's the release of the new single from Pembrokeshires country pop singer-songwriter, Rosey Cale.
This talented young lady was lucky enough to have collaborated with Amy Wadge and co-wrote the new song 'Whiskey Than Wine'. Amy, who also plays all the parts on the track, has used her magic pen to help many people in the music industry, some you may just know!
And with thanks to Iaon Hefin, its also available in traditional Welsh language under the guise of Y Gytgan Anghyflawn
'Through her distinctive voice and forthright style Rosey has been capturing audiences across Wales and the UK with her musicality and lyrical honesty. Roseys self released debut EP Creating Images features songs inspired by heartbreak, challenging issues such as tackling body image following her battle and triumph with anorexia, to one of her most requested songs, OAP, which sheds light on the perks of becoming and old age pensioner'
And before we get to the song itself, I managed to catch up with the lady herself and throw a few questions her way -

Hi Rosey, thanks for answering some of my questions!
First up..for those that don’t know you, tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, thank you for inviting me to be part of your project! I’m 24 and I’m a country singer-songwriter from Pembrokeshire. I started writing my own songs and playing guitar in 2013 when I was 19. As well as releasing my own music I also work as an actress and play gigs around the country.
Well its been 2 years since your first EP release and the new track ‘Whiskey Than Wine’ comes out soon, what can we expect from the new Rosey material?
This year I plan on releasing a few songs that I’ve written over the past couple of years. I’m very much influence by country music - I love how raw the lyrics can be and I love telling stories through my songs. I think people can expect honesty from my new music and I hope that they to feel something from it.
‘Whiskey Than Wine’ is the first song I’ve collaborated with another songwriter on. It’s a beautiful song I wrote it with the wonderfully talented Amy Wadge in December and tells the story of my Grandfather who lost my Grandmother when I was 6. He turned to drink to quite quickly after (especially Whiskey) and watching him lose her had a huge impact on me.
‘Creating Images’ was largely inspired by a lot of personal issues you were going through at the time too, more poignantly ‘Mirror Mirror’. Is this something you would like to leave in the past or quite happy to talk about?
I’m all for being open about my mental illness and especially with my Anorexia Nervosa. I’m more than happy to talk about it if people ask, but I do like to look forwards and focus on where I’m heading. It was, and is, a huge part of who I am today and I’ve learnt to accept myself for who I am and hope that I can inspire others to keep fighting.
Absolutely! You also have a big passion for acting and the theatre. Is this something you would love to pursue further and if you got a break, how about TV or film?
Definitely! I trained as an actor in university and went to drama school to do musical theatre. I’m open to anything life throws at me so if that’s TV or Film I’m in! I just love being creative, whether that’s telling stories, making things with my hands, playing instruments etc. I don’t like saying no unless I have to as you never know where an opportunity might lead.
Which would you choose if you had to choose one….acting or music!?
That’s like asking would I prefer to see or to hear! Ha! But if I HAVE to chose, I’d say music. (But next time you ask I might have changed my mind).
We’ve seen some of your musical influences with the YouTube videos that you put out quite regularly. Who would you love to tour with, be it a support slot or someday, headlining with?!
Most definitely the likes of Kelsea Ballerini, Carrie Underwood, Raelynn, Catherine McGrath or Sara Bareilles.
And getting know Rosey a little bit better, what’s your favourite..
Pizza? The fact you’ve offered me pizza in this interview makes me happy. I have pizza night once a week with one of my best friends and it all depends on the day. Today I’d choose Spinach and Ricotta.
Movie? Princess Diaries 1 and 2
Holiday? Social media free with a good book and getting lost in places I’ve never been.
Song/Album?
Song: Waiting for a Star to Fall – Boy Meets Girl
Album: Red – Taylor Swift
During the last two years, its great to have seen you grow as an artist and hear your voice go from strength to strength AND finally get to catch a live set! All the best with the future Rosey and one more question…A Welsh version too!?
Yes..! ‘Y Gytgan Anghyflawn’. A great friend of mine, Ioan Hefin, who is also a very talented actor, has translated the song. I felt that, since I am Welsh, I should make music that everyone in my home country could listen to. I think it’s such a beautiful language and it’s so historical to our country, not just Wales but to Britain too and I don’t want to see it disappear.
I quite agree Rosey! Its been great getting to know you a little bit more and good luck with the new track and all your future projects..
Thank you so much for interviewing me today, I’m so thankful for all your continued support and I’m really glad we finally got to collaborate!
'Whiskey Than Wine/Y Gytgan Angyflawn'
In true country style, Rosey tells the sad tale of watching her Grandfather struggling with the loss of his wife, when Rosey was just 6. He soon turned to drink to cope with the daily struggle of losing someone so close...
"I'm more rain than shine,
I'm more low than high,
I'm more mean than kind,
If you ask me I'm fine.."
The sentiments are just beautiful, the vocals are passionate and the music totally sets the background on this gorgeous lament. Its one of those tracks that settle deep into your heart and soul with every listen and leaves you with a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye.
Please give the Welsh version a listen too. I don't speak or understand a lot of the language myself but you don't necessarily need to. There is something so traditionally stunning and beautiful about that version...wow!
