I've always been a big fan of rock/metal and growing up through the late 80's/90's, I was finding my feet and getting to know what sort of rock or metal I liked the most. I'd been listening to things like Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Guns N Roses, Skid Row, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin etc which formed the basis then for Pantera, Faith No More, Korn, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Prong, Pearl Jam, Clawfinger. I still love all these bands and still regularly listen to them.
I like to support the local South Wales music scene and started seeing a lot of local bands, whereas before for me, it was just travelling to get chance to see the 'big boys' Usually, buying coach travel and tickets to Milton Keynes, Birmingham, London etc.
I wouldn't have said this side-tracked me a little but I really enjoyed seeing all sorts of bands and artists across all genres of music. I loved it and still do.
This, then, took me to Steelhouse 2017. My son was growing well and with a good education from me, started getting into rock and metal too. Steelhouse was amazing for us and made so many great memories. I started taking a more closer look into the lower level rock scene.
I'm totally loving this 'new' surge of rock bands coming through and the 'new wave of classic rock' movement flying around all the social media platforms.
So, is rock n roll dead? I think not!
This article takes a little look at these bands that are taking to the pubs, clubs and festivals at the moment and in particular, the ones that have caught my eye (or ears, really!)
I'll start with the guys I saw at Steelhouse and have seen three times since. I love them! They have a tour and a new EP very soon and the first two are absolute bangers! Florence Black..
Moving seamlessly into the next bunch...Who, incidentally, I saw at one of those Florence Black gigs...and a few times since..Those Damn Crows...
When you start delving into it, there is so much awesome rock music still out there. Through being part of Facebook fan pages and groups.....the list just keeps growing!
But next.....the Wayward Sons. Having been a fan of Little Angels and Toby Jepsons' previous work, I was getting kind of excited to see what this new band would become. Best New Band on Planet Rock!!
The next band up have just released a new album and like the previous bands, are awesome live....ladies and gents, Stone Broken..
I could fill this page up with amazing bands and amazing music. Brilliant artists you should also check out like Texas Flood, Whiskey Lies, Beth Blade and the Disasters, Broken Witt Rebels, Massive Wagons, Bad Flowers, The Dust Coda and Dead Mans Whiskey.....
But part of this 'new wave', the others that have shone out for me are.....Greta Van Fleet
Zeppelin wannabe's or not, for a bunch of young lads, they have an awesome sound..!
And talking of awesome sounds, the next band up......SKAM. Hopefully seeing them with Florence Black very soon!
I'm going back to being patriotic again for the next couple....So now, the King Of Wales and Motorhead member with his tribe, Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons...
And keeping it Welsh, the phenomenal voice of Nathan and Inglorious....
If we take a little swim across the water right now to Norn Iron.....We'd find Baleful Creed..
And also around the same neck of the woods....Gasoline Outlaws..
Some amazing music so far, you gotta admit!
I've also really enjoyed the stuff from Samarkind, Bigfoot, Theia, The New Roses & Killit but now, I'm taking a listen to some bands I've not yet heard, so check them out too....First one, deVIence
Sounds very theatrical to me and heavy on the 90's kind of Jovi, Poison, Warrant, even Meatloaf sort of vibe...Not a bad thing..!
Next one up is a band I've been looking forward to checking out...The King Lot
Liking the sound of these guys a lot, so I'm heading off to check out the album in full!
Hope you've enjoyed listening along and seeing the bands you already like or maybe finding some new sounds for your ears!
If you would like to check out more like this, then follow my playlist on Spotify! Cheers.
One thing is for sure...Rock n Roll Ain't Dead!
