You Never Know Who's Listening - John Adams (Album Review)

John Winser (Gigs N Trigs)

March 2nd 2018 sees the release of the South Wales' singer/songwriters new album, 'You Never Know Who's Listening'

John has a relentless work ethic and puts everything into getting his music career off the ground (or pavement!)

He busks, performs at weddings, has filled numerous support slots, most recently with T'Pau, as well as running his own mini-tours and sold-out live shows.

This album really shows the experience and talent that has given this release everything it deserves.

Coming Home is a fantastic opener to the album and in true John Adams style, opens the heart and soul in a wave of true emotion. And it doesn’t stop there...

Things That Make You Beautiful is a truly stunning track and possibly my favourite song on the album. Gorgeous vocals and powerful, climatic searing strings are the things that make you goose bump.

Just beautiful.

Coming Home

Things That Make You Beautiful

For Me, For Her, For You just doesn’t give the hairs on the back of your neck chance to go down. John sings, as always, with such strong emotion, you can’t but help feel every word and every note. First time I saw this performed live acoustically, the place was silent and it made a friend of mine cry!

The man is ruthless because you go through it all over again with Dandelion Wishes.

For Mr, For Her, For You

Dandelion Wishes

For those that have seen John and his band play live, its great to finally have the tracks we know and love, recorded.

Favourites like Players Curse, Couldn’t Get It Right and Please Don’t Say You Don’t Know give the album a little up-tempo feel. These are the ‘sing-along’ songs that sound just as good here as they do in the live shows. Definitely gives it that feel good factor!

The quality production value and sheer musicianship really shine through in See You Again, with silky sweet harmonies and cool, crisp, mellow pop vibes. This also comes across with the ‘old’ but re-worked version of The Pavement Is my Stage.

I loved the original version from his first album, but this shows how time, experience and talent really shapes the sound of this new, ‘upgraded’ edit. A stronger, more mature take on a well written song.

Be sure to check out the extras at the end too. Very nice acoustic, piano and live versions for your listening pleasure!

To sum it up…. you’ll cry, you’ll sing, you’ll dance and possibly cry again.
